Septembre Lewis Interviews Shante Duncan
Founder | S.H.E.E.R.A.H. | St. Louis, MO
How do I become my best self? How do we break down these stereotypes that exist against us, especially that says as black women we can't get along? That says that we are designed to have beef and compete for men? S.H.E.R.A.H. exist to expel all of those stereotypes. We are not each other's enemy. We are actually reflections of each other. If I can love me, I definitely can love you. And because I love me, I do love you. Shante Duncan
Good evening and welcome to the Golden Mind Show. I hope that January is wrapping up beautifully for you guys. Today, we have, Shante Duncan, the founder of S.H.E.R.A.H. (Sisters Helping Each Other Reach A Higher Height) I actually met her community impact before I met her, believe it or not. That’s how it should be. You want your work to speak so loudly that it introduces it itself…amazing.
Before we are enlightened with her interview, I want to share an encouraging word with you.
Currently, I am reading "How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking", written by Dale Carnegie and it had this dazzling excerpt; It spoke so loudly to my soul. It is as follows:
"Let no man have anxiety about the upshot of his education, whatever the line of it may be. If he keeps faithfully busy each hour of the working day, he may safely leave the final result to itself. He can, with perfect certainty, wake up some fine morning to find himself one the competent ones of his generation, in whatever pursuit he may have singled out.
All to often we are concerned with the outcome of our journey, but I love this excerpt as it encourages us to not focus on the outcome, but to live day-to-day FULLY, expecting life to give us what we have given it and then some. Keep waking up with your mind positively saturated, focused and determined to leave a legacy and life will render itself to you. It will have no choice.

Sometimes all the pieces aren’t together, but we have to keep moving forward anyway, right? And typically even when faced with fear, we find ourselves saying that wasn’t so bad. Shante has an amazing journey, I think you’ll find it helpful to listen to her story, empowering us to move pass our fears and allow our lives to be the voice of reason, the voice of change in our local and worldwide communities.
Shante lives in St. Louis, MO with her husband and children. She is a transformational personality and dynamic speaker who can also be dubbed a passionate social justice advocate. She has written articles and/ or edited for several local newspapers, and magazines. She is a freelance journalist/activist...
Septembre Lewis Interviews Lester Rey
Boogaloo Singer | Cosmic Raza | Chicago, IL
I realized I really enjoyed creating music. It wasn't so much the coolness or the swag, the chains or the image. I didn't want the image, I really loved music. Lester Rey
How's your day panning out? Beautifully, I'm sure.
Tune into this week's TGMS interview with Lester Rey, he's an amazing guest! If you'll notice, he's really laid-back, and calm-spirited.. The setting/aura of the conversation is COMPLETELY different than other interviews.
He's the lead singer/founder of Cosmic Raza and part of the production duo Humble Village, Lester Rey has ventured off into a solo career with the mission of reviving a classic Latin style of music by bringing it to the modern age and empowering the people with his spoken word put into song form. Working closely with Ben Antunez aka Benzi Blues, the producer of Cosmic Raza and part of the production duo Humble Village, Lester Rey and Blues have been fine tuning the aesthetics of the sound and expressing their creative freedom as an Indie project...
Septembre Lewis with Darwin Harris & Martell Cotton
College Students | Upward Bound Math & Science | Cahokia, IL & O'fallon, IL
I didn't want to be someone who graduates and stays the same. I wanted to be big, somebody that somebody talks about. I decided myself that I am NOT going to let people influence me negatively and bring me down. Darwin Harris
Sometimes, the words that come out of your mouth, limit the places that you can go. You should never let your mental capacity limit the places that God wants to take you. He can take you far, above and beyond that which you ask. Martell Cotton
How hard are you willing to work for those things you desire? Are you taking heed to advice given from those pivotal people in your life?
This week, I have the pleasure of chatting with Martell Cotton and Darwin Harris. Both are high school seniors preparing for the college journey. I asked these two to join us because they both received a huge amount of scholarship assistance, rewarding their hard work and dedication. I wanted to highlight these two, for students who feel its impossible to get such tremendous assistance after "doing the leg work" and receiving financial scholarships rewards.
Darwin is a senior high school student at Cahokia High School in Cahokia, IL. He finds pleasure in hanging with friends, being a working citizen and diligent volunteer member of his community. He is preparing to become a broadcaster, taking pride in all the college choices and the major scholarship opportunity he has been blessed with (over $50,000!) He talks about how he went from being vulnerable and sensitive to the words, thoughts and influence of others to taking a stand to be the difference we seek in the anti-bullying community.
Martell is a senior high school student at Collinsville High School. She's a hardworking, and mature young lady. She can be found wearing her joy and faith in God., being more than thankful for his relentless blessings. She was also very fortunate enough to receive a major scholarship opportunity of $68,000! She talks about how her walk with God has allowed her to be confident in her journey despite unexpected and uncomfortable turns.
Tune in. I am sure that we can all learn something from these two, whether it refers to our lessons learned or our experiences to come. It gets real about 10-15 minutes in, so just wait on it.

I go through things, but IT'S NOT ABOUT ME. If I don't get out of bed, someone's not going to be touched the way they should have been touched that day. There is someone that's suppose to cross my path, and if I don't get out of bed, he or she will NEVER cross it. Kimberly Scott
Oh my gosh you guys! Can I just say, I absolutely love this girl! You know how you come across someone that has SUCH a similar spirit ... KIM is one of those people for me!
Kimberly Scott is the founder of My Girls (Gifted, Intelligent, Resilient, Ladies of Society) which was created in an effort to empower and enrich the lives of teenage girls ages eleven to seventeen years old, by offering exposure in practical areas that include: positive self-image, interpersonal relationship skills, community-service, and recreational activities.
The program was created based on a need Kim saw that needed to be met for teenage girls. In the interview she shares how she has been blessed to grow the program four schools wide(!!!), despite obstacles, a big one that presented itself in the lost of her grandmother.
She encourages us to not be afraid to live out our purposes as well as knowing that "if you wake up and touch just the people of your household and just one other person, you have done your job." I love that! I love her spirit & what she stands for! Trust me, her interview is rich with so many encouraging messages, and blessings. Stay tuned ...I'm sure there's a message intended for you.
